USA DANCE REGULATIONS

Remember - For the 2017 Nationals you need to have competed in the same partnership and in the same event (style/age/proficiency level) and have reached the 65% proficiency level in the event at an NQE that you, the Athlete Couple, intend to enter in the USA Dance National DanceSport Championships.

NQEs do not run official 9-Dance or 10-Dance events. Even if an NQE does run one or both of these events, they are not qualifying events for USA Dance Nationals. DanceSport Athletes must qualify in Championship in either Standard or Latin and at least Pre-Champ in the other style or Championship in both Standard and Latin to qualify for International 10-Dance at Nationals. DanceSport Athletes must qualify in Championship in either Smooth or Rhythm and at least Pre-Champ in the other style or Championship in both Smooth and Rhythm to qualify for American 9-Dance at Nationals. However, you do not need to qualify at the same NQE in both events.

At 2017 Nationals we are offering Youth and Adult 10-Dance events. We will  also award 10-Dance titles to the Junior I, Junior II, Under 21, Senior I, Senior II, and Senior III couples who dance both Championship Standard and Latin in their respective age groups.

At 2017 Nationals we are offering an Adult 9-Dance event.   We will also award 9-Dance titles to the Junior I, Junior II, Youth, Senior I, Senior II, and Senior III couples who dance both Championship Smooth and Rhythm in their respective age groups.

At 2017 Nationals we are offering Adult Standard and Latin Showdance events. Eligibility to enter does not require qualifying at an NQE competition; however it does require submission of an audition DVD to the DanceSport Council per Rule 3.3.2 and procedures outlined in this rule must be followed.

We are proud to offer Under-21 Championship in Standard & Latin. The NQEs do not run official Under-21 events. Couples who qualify to dance Nationals in Youth Championship events may dance in the Under-21 events at Nationals provided they are age 16 through 20. Couples who qualify in Adult Championships may dance the Under-21 events provided they are age eligible.

For the fourth time at Nationals, there will be WDSF Open events. These events will be the Senior I and Senior II  Standard and Latin events.  Anyone who is qualified by age may compete in these events.  You DO NOT have to qualify in an NQE to dance in these WDSF events.  However, you  MUST have a WDSF card. Please click on this link to get your card: WDSF ID Cards

Competitors are required to understand and follow the rules put forth by the USA Dance DanceSport Council.

Example: If either member of any competitive couple is found to be dancing in an age category for which s/he is not eligible, the couple will be disqualified for all out-of-age-category events entered.

The following links are provided so you can have direct access to these documents. It is the competitors’ responsibility to read and abide by these regulations.
